Emergency Medical Services

Ellinwood EMS is a Type II (Basic Life Support) Service with Type I (Advanced Life Support) capabilities.  The EMS Department offers Paramedic Level care on approximately 75% of all emergency calls and has Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMT) care on aproximately 99% of all calls.  The service is staffed by one fulltime director and 17 volunteers.  The service covers a response district of 110 square miles which includes the City of Ellinwood and the surrounding rural areas.  The EMS Department staff two ambulances and a rescue truck and respond to 275-300 calls per year.

Community Service

Ellinwood EMS is a strong supporter of public access defibrillation and spearheaded a drive to place Automated External Defibrillators throughout the community.  Currently there are AEDs in the following locations: Ellinwood High School, Ellinwood Grade School, football field/track, St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Joseph’s School, church and parish center, Ellinwood District Hospital and the Ellinwood Fire Department command vehicle.  This is in addition to the two defibrillators carried on the ambulances.

Ellinwood EMS has the distinction of being the only service to win the Kansas BLS Service of the Year Award twice.
